My wife wore glasses for 30 years before she got lasik eye surgery. I remember watching her wake up in the morning, she would have to feel around for her glasses because she could not see a thing without them. Everything was very blurry. Once she put her glasses on she could see clearly. Her lack of clarity in vision kept her from doing what she needed to do.
The word “clarity” is a very powerful word. It basically means, to make things clear. I would bet that nobody would prefer to walk around seeing things blurry? I know I sure would not. The less clearer that we see things or understand things , the more chance there is that confusion will take place. Where there is confusion, problems will surface. But don’t forget where a problem is, there is also opportunity, only if we know how to solve problems. I believe that this word “clarity” is the key to solving most problems. When there is a problem, the first thing that I have learned to do is get clarity on the whole situation before moving forward. Once I gain have gained clarity, usually the answer becomes obvious. Many people are afraid of clarity and truth. That is why they will never move forward in life. Clarity and truth stings sometimes at the moment but brings about freedom later.
Clarity helps us to focus on the right things. What we focus on, we will produce. There is a caveat to this calrity and focus thing, it is this. When we focus on what we don’t want we get that too. Let that settle in. When something gets our attention and we focus on that, we get more of it. In other words, get begets get. So that means that we have to be very clear on what our focus is in everything we do or we will not be in charge of our destiny. We are the cause of where we place our attention. That is one thing that we CAN control.
I believe that there comes a time in our lives that we all have to sit down and be honest with ourselves about something. We have to ask these type questions, “How are we doing in life? ” and “If life where a game, would we be winning or losing?”
How many people would like to watch a game without knowing the score. Well life is the same way. We have to know our score if we want to win. Before I was aware of these questions, I was going through life day to day, month to month, year to year without any specific focus points. I was just kind of, out there letting things happen to me. I guess I can say that I was going from distraction to distraction. For me this brought, frustration, lack of clarity, blaming, irresponsibility, hurts and so on…
So I sat down one day and wrote down 15 or 20 things that were important to me. These things would be the things that I focused on not yearly, not quarterly, not monthly, not weekly , but DAILY. I beleive that daily scorekeeping is vital to our success in life.
I’ve learned that we get to where we are day to day. I’ve also learned that things don’t just happen. We have to make them happen. We all have 24 hours in a day. You see we become a better husband, wife, father, mother, friend, co-worker day by day. We become closer to my God day to day. We become a better leader, a better giver, a better sales person, a better speaker, etc. I could go on and on.
The things that I focus on daily is what I become….
So I encourage you to define and clarify what it is in your life that you want to be and focus on it, daily.
