Character is the foundation of leadership. Character is like the concrete slab of a house. Without it the house will eventually slide down the hill or crumble over time.
Think about this for a moment. If you were going to purchase a house and everything looked great, just how you like it. The color was perfect, the size was perfect, the yard was perfect, the kitchen was perfect, etc., but there was only one thing that caught your eye. The house had a foundation of sand! Would you still purchase this house? Well, of course not. You would not buy this house because of lack of trust that the house would stand over time. The same thing goes for leadership. If a person has questionable character then, we do not buy into them either.
It is common and rather easy to spot in individuals. Most people in leadership positions that have questionable character cannot ever understand why others don’t listen to them or follow them. They wonder why so many people quit on them. They feel that they have the title, so others should listen to their instruction. They eventually get frustrated because they cannot make anyone do their job. 9 times out of 10 what this individual is lacking is character.
It is one thing to learn about character but it is another thing to put it into practice.I encourage us all to commit to becoming a person of character. Let’s not only be readers and watchers, lets become doer’s.
Check out this verse below from Matthew.
Matthew7:24-27, 24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
